Nestled in the lap of the mid-Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, offers not only a serene and picturesque environment but also the opportunity to experience the profound bond between humanity and nature. In furtherance of its vision to nurture innovative scholarship, the University has established the Centre for Environmental Studies to promote interdisciplinary research and foster novel approaches in addressing environmental concerns.
Learning, as an indispensable and lifelong process, shapes our ability to understand, adapt, and innovate in response to the environment we inhabit. Human interaction with nature is both innate and inevitable—our very evolution owes itself to it. Yet, alongside this interaction lies an undeniable ignorance toward pressing environmental challenges. The increasing articulation of these concerns on international platforms underscores the urgency of global attention and action.
Against this backdrop, the role of legal academia becomes paramount in cultivating are search culture that is both solution-oriented and forward-looking. Educational institutions and other stakeholders must act as facilitators of such an approach, ensuring that scholarship transcends theoretical boundaries and translates into meaningful strategies for sustainable living.
The Journal of Environment and Disaster Management, the maiden publication of the Centre, is deeply committed to this vision. It seeks to provide a vibrant platform for dynamic ideas, offering innovative perspectives on environmental jurisprudence and contributing to the development of practical, sustainable policies. Research is ever-evolving-ideas once overlooked often gain new relevance with shifting contexts. This Journal aspires to pioneer such perspectives, contributing meaningfully to global conversations on environment and disaster management, and inspiring practical pathways toward a resilient and sustainable future.
